Bomba rice has been cultivated in the Iberian peninsula since the Middle Ages. The production of Bomba rice is limited, as it is difficult to grow. In recent years, the cultivation and production of this sacred variety almost vanished, but Arrocerias Antonio Tomas, the manufacturer of this rice, was one of the companies that committed to Bomba and made sure that its production continued through many tough times.
Bomba rice is a short grain variety with a pearl color. Its size is perhaps a tad bit smaller than other short grain varieties, yet Bomba rice more than doubles its size when cooked. Its main characteristic is its great capacity to absorb flavors and aromas and that when cooked it is always “al dente”, loose and whole. These excellent culinary properties make it one of the best rice varieties in the world. In fact, it is so revered many chefs refer to its as the “King of Rices”. This gourmet rice par excellence is especially recommended for Paellas and “Abanda” rice dishes, but it can also be used for just about any side dish or entrée that calls for rice.
